Lectures for International Understanding
With the rapid progress of globalization, it is necessary to understand other countries and ethnic cultures to realize world peace and also to live together with foreign residents in our own community. To accomplish this, MISHOP organizes Lectures for International Understanding every year. The themes selected are the hottest topics related to the current world situations, delivered by specialists presenting true stories and real aspects often not covered by the mass media.
MISHOP started this lecture series in 1989, the year of its founding. The rationale for this program is the notion that to deepen multi-cultural understanding, it is most important to have accurate information, to think with an open mind, and have an international outlook. The first topic was ‘Difficulties in Multi-cultural Communication’. Since then, MISHOP has organized the lecture series several times a year, covering various topics such as the political and economic situations of the countries and areas of the world, educational problems, food distribution, medical environment, NGO activities, etc. The number of lectures now totals more than 60.
Lecture contents are given on MISHOP’s home page and also in the Mitaka City Bulletin. If you find any topic of interest, we encourage you to attend the lecture and deepen your multi-cultural understanding.
